Kigalia Canyon Trail

The Kigalia Canyon Trail #026 is 2.8 miles long.  It begins at Forest Road #107 (Kigalia Guard Station) and ends at Forest Road #089 (Peavine Corridor).  This trail begins at a small spring (Kigalia Spring) and travels down into Peavine Canyon opposite of Peavine Corridor Road (#089).  This trail is named for Kigalia Spring on Elk Ridge at the beginning of this trail.  Kigalia is an corruption of Kaa’yelii, a Navajo who lived and herded sheep in the area in the late 1800’s. This trail is in designated wilderness and is often combined with other trails in Dark Canyon Wilderness for in-and-out and/or loop backpacking trips.  Other trails it maybe combined with include: #006 (East and West Dark Canyon), #007 (Trail Canyon), #023 (Brushy Knoll), #025 (Horse Pasture), #157 (Peavine Canyon), #161 (Rig Canyon) and #165 (Woodenshoe).
