Government Trail

In order to get to the Government Trailhead, you will need a 4WD vehicle with high clearance, although the last 0.6 miles of the road is the only part that is particularly rocky. If you only have a 2WD vehicle with low clearance, you can park near Slick Horn Road or along the road leading up to the trailhead.

Once you get to the trail, it follows a doubletrack road for around 2.7 miles and offers stunning views. There are some slickrock areas, but cairns will help you stay on the right path. When you reach the edge of Grand Gulch, you will be amazed by the 300-foot canyon with Polly's Island in the middle. Before you descend down the moderately steep, rocky trail to the canyon floor, take some time to explore the rim.
